Until August 31, pre and postgraduate students from universities, professional institutes and technical training centers throughout the country can apply with their research and development ideas, related to natural resources at aplicatuidea.cl.
Five years ago is now the Copec-UC Foundation Apply Your Idea Competition, an initiative that promotes innovative ideas in the area of natural resources, which can be developed as research projects and generate a positive impact or a response to society.
“Apply Your Idea competition is the gateway to the other initiatives to support research and innovation that the Copec-UC Foundation has. With ‘Apply’ we start with the idea of this powerful research to continue potentiating it over time with our other competitions: the Young Researchers and the Regular, which provide more funding that can reach up to 8,000 UFS, “explained María Belén Bravo, coordinator of this initiative.
The prizes to the best ten projects are 1,500,000 pesos for each and $1,500,000 more for best three of the generation, money that is given as recognition of the idea and is not subject to a subsequent surrender.
The winning teams will also participate in the Improvement Workshop with IncubaUC, incubator of the Pontificia Universidad Católica, an intensive day that will be held next December at the UC Innovation Center, and where they will receive training in innovation and entrepreneurship, workshops, workshops and exclusive dynamics, as a class to improve your pitch.
The best projects will also receive a fast-track or direct pass to apply to the Young Researchers Competition, also from Fundación Copec-UC, which promotes research that has a prototype and provides funding of 3,000 UF to 6,000 UF in four years.
“The application will be open until August 31 at aplicatuidea.cl. You just have to upload a video with a 3-minute pitch, where the teams explain what the project is about and the reasons why it can be a powerful solution to a problem related to natural resources. The process also requests that the regular student certificate be presented and an image of the participant’s identity card be uploaded” said Apply Your Idea coordinator.
Successful case 2017
With a gray water reuse system, Camila Cárdenas and Valentina Veloso, engineers and students of the doctorate in UC Engineering, became one of the best projects of the Apply Your Idea 2017 Contest with YAKU, which means water in Quechua.
Researchers applied with a video, in which through a three-minute pitch, they explained the process that YAKU follows and how the project could be a great solution to the water issue. “This contest for us has been very good because it is one of the few instances in Chile that allows us to play creativity and seek new solutions in terms of natural resources and only for this we were awarded last year,” said Valentina Veloso.
